Entitled “METAMORPHOSES”, this game introduces a set of necessary rules for creating geometrically adapted images. There are three levels in this game.First, a person, who decides to play this game, has to choose a certain type of grid format with any number of units. Then, one needs to arrange some arbitrary combination of basic types of lines within the grid. This combination can be totally abstract. Any type of basic lines can be used a number of times while the others may be left out. It is also not necessary to have all units of the grid occupied by the line. ( See the initial abstraction section).
Once the elementary part of the process is complete and the beginner is comfortable with all specifics of the line juncture, one can approach the second level. While the initial abstraction is meant to serve as a structural skeleton, the second layer of basic lines can be developed into a more figurative stylization. By rotating of the initial abstraction, a participant may see other possibilities for visualizing his/ her figurative ideas. (See the examples in section with metamorphoses).
The third part of the process would be a decoration of lines and spaces between them. A distribution of colors and a graphic imitation of textures can help a player to achieve the final product of his/ her creative thoughts. ( See the color and texture sections). Let’s play!
This system can be used in many different applications. It may be developed into a table game, a computer game, or a TV program with quizzes and competitions. As a table game, for example, there are two options. First option can be designed in a puzzle format, meaning the final images may be put together from the number of individual pieces, where those individual pieces can be either two, or three-dimensional.
The second table game option of this proposal may create an engaging dialogue between a person who offers an abstract image composed out of geometrical elements and another person (group of people) who should transform this given image into a representational picture. The winner may be the person who should come up with as many and as exiting pictures as possible out of a single abstract combination of basic lines.
